  • Schauer voted to raise the income tax by 11.5 %, from 3.9% to 4.35%. Roll call vote 397 on Oct. 1, 2007: $765 million tax increase passed 20-19 (Lt. Gov. broke tie) and Schauer voted yes, if Schauer would have voted no the tax increase would not have passed.
  •  Schauer voted for a 21.99 percent surcharge on businesses ("tax on a tax") subject to the Michigan Business Tax to replace the sales tax on services Schauer voted for. Roll call vote 515 on Dec. 1, 2007 and Schauer voted yes.
  •  Schauer voted for a 4 cents per gallon gas tax increase. Roll Call 777 on July 16, 1997: Gas tax increase passed 56-48 and Schauer voted yes.

Energy
Voted to raise the gas tax and introduced a bill to triple the Michigan oil drilling fee. Opposes more domestic exploration.
