More Taxpayer-Funded Deception from Mark Schauer

More Taxpayer-Funded Deception from Mark Schauer

Schauer Tries to Hide Votes for Wall Street Bailouts, Deficit Spending, Bonuses

Tipton, MI
- Last October, Mark Schauer was caught telling constituents in a taxpayer paid for mass mailer that he opposed specific pork barrel spending items, but it was later revealed that Schauer in fact voted to fund projects he claimed to oppose.  Schauer has once again sent out a taxpayer paid for mass mailer that is clearly intended to deceive.  He tells constituents what they want to hear, but his voting record does not match his rhetoric on Wall Street bailouts, deficit spending, and bonuses for bailed out executives.

Examples of Mark Schauer’s deception from his taxpayer paid for mailer:

Schauer’s statement in the mailer: “It’s time to STOP bailing out Wall Street when it’s flooding right here in Michigan.”

Schauer’s record:

·         Voted against halting the second $350 billion from TARP and requiring the original $350 billion to be returned to the Treasury (Roll Call 25 on 1-21-09).

·         Voted against shutting down TARP and requiring all the money to be returned to the Treasury to reduce the national debt (Roll Call 967 on 12-11-09).

·         Voted for a permanent Wall Street bailout fund (Roll Call 968 on 12-11-09).

Schauer’s statement in the mailer:
“I recently voted against raising our national debt ceiling – because spending more money isn’t the way out of this economic mess.”

Schauer’s record:

·         Voted for Speaker Pelosi’s Budget that increases the national debt by $5.3 trillion over the next five years. [Roll Call Vote 192 on 4-2-09]

·         Voted for the $787 billion spending “stimulus” package. [Roll Call Vote 46 on 1-28-09]

·         Voted for the $410 billion omnibus appropriations bill that increased spending by 8.4%, included over 8,000 earmarks, and raised spending for the operation of Congress by 11%. [Roll Call Vote 86 on 2-25-09]

·         Voted for the $447 billion omnibus appropriation bill that, excluding emergency appropriations, increased spending by 12.5% over last year’s level and was 24.4% above Fiscal Year 2008 levels.  [Roll Call Vote 948 on 12-10-09]

Schauer’s statement in the mailer:
“Cracking down on bonuses for Wall Street CEOs”

Schauer’s record:

·         Voted for the “stimulus” package [Roll Call Vote 46 on 1-28-09] that allowed 73 AIG Executives to each receive $1 million and above bonuses after taxpayers bailed out the firm.  Schauer insisted he read the “stimulus” legislation [Daily Telegram 7-29-09].

“With south central Michigan families struggling in this terrible economy and the national debt skyrocketing, Mark Schauer continues to send out deceptive taxpayer paid for mailers to try to hide his votes for wasteful spending and trillion dollar deficits.  I stood up for Michigan families by voting against the Wall Street bailout and House Speaker Pelosi’s trillion dollar budgets,” said Tim Walberg

“We can grow Michigan’s economy again if government will cut spending and reduce the tax burden to encourage hard work, investment, and job creation,” added Walberg.
