Schauer Raids Social Security to Pay for Failed Stimulus
and Health Care Takeover
Walberg Calls for Protecting Social Security
Tipton, MI- Instead of saving payroll taxes to fund future Social Security payments, Congress has been raiding Social Security to pay for other government programs and special projects. Mark Schauer’s votes for massive spending increases, including the failed $862 billion stimulus spending plan and the trillion dollar government takeover of health care, are further raiding Social Security funds.
Last year, the federal government ran a $1.4 trillion deficit, meaning the government raided Social Security and borrowed from foreign countries like China to meet their obligations. When Social Security starts running a deficit, which it’s projected to do this year for a period of time, then the federal government will need to borrow even more money from foreign nations.
“On the 75th Anniversary of Social Security, I renew my call for Congress to stop raiding the Social Security Trust Fund. In Congress, I introduced bipartisan legislation to safeguard Social Security funds by preventing Social Security dollars from being spent on other government programs, but Speaker Nancy Pelosi clearly preferred to continue spending the money,” said Tim Walberg.
“Mark Schauer’s raiding of Social Security funds to pay for the failed $862 stimulus and trillion dollar government takeover of health care demonstrates his addiction to government spending. Mark Schauer is so eager to spend more taxpayer dollars that he does not mind raiding Social Security or borrowing from China. I have always opposed privatization of the Social Security system, while Democrats continue raiding it and weaken the system. I will work to restrain government spending, reduce taxes to grow our economy and protect Social Security,” Walberg added.
Tomorrow marks the 75th Anniversary of Social Security.
